Location: Prairie View, Texas
Mascots: The Black Panther
This will be the third Winter Classic for the PVAMU team, they were the very first team to sign up for the inaugural 2021 Winter Classic, so we have a soft place in our heart for them. The won the Gold Medal last year and are looking to defend the title in 2023. Their win last year couldn’t have been more dramatic. Going into the AWS OpenFOAM Challenge, the Prairie View team was in fifth place in a tight pack of competing teams – but significantly off the pace of the leading team.
The team closely studied OpenFOAM and came up with the idea of coarsening the mesh to see how that would impact results. It impacted the results. Their score was nearly 9x higher than the leader and way better than the rest of the field. This vaulted PVAMU into second place, only TWO points behind the leader. They notched a first place score in the judging interview and won going away.
So the team definitely has momentum coming into the 2023 Winter Classic, can they make history and become the first repeat winner? We shall see…..

Since I was young, technology was all around me. From playing video games to using the computer, I always know that tech would be a part of my future. I’ve always wondered how games run and respond to user input. Overtime, my interest grew deeper into the research of how applications work on mobile devices and how they are made to fit everyday life.
