Fayetteville State University sent two teams to the Winter Classic this year, and they’re both very solid. Like most of the teams, these students don’t have a lot of HPC experience, but they’re pushing hard to learn. So far, the results have been great. They finished fourth on LINPACK but dropped down to seventh on HPCG. I couldn’t share their HPC Crash Course exam score with them yet, but they ended up fourth. Pretty solid performance for a new team.

We were joined by Patrick Porto, HPE’s HPC/AI Global Services Leader, in the interview, which was a real treat for the students. He added a lot to the conversation when we talked about student future career plans, giving them valuable info about what HPC/AI employers are looking for and how to get into the industry. This is a senior heavy team, so they’ll be in the market soon.
