Dr. Jack Dongarra Talks LINPACK & HPCG

In the video below, we interview Dr. Jack, who was lead developer of the HPL (LINPACK) benchmark, which is used to rank the TOP500 supercomputers worldwide.

More recently, he developed the HPCG (Conjugate Gradients) benchmark which is much more indicative of workloads systems face today.

Taken together these benchmarks are like book stands on either side of a supercomputer. HPL shows the best the system can possibly do while HPCG shows the worst case. It's a fascinating conversation in any case....Dr. Jack also gives tips about how to best optimize these two benchmarks.
