This is the second Winter Classic for Jackson State University. In their first year, they fielded a small, but scrappy team of three students. Two of those students are back again this year, and they brought along four more. Most of the team are computer science students (three seniors and two juniors), but there is also one Computer Engineering freshman in the mix.
The team in 2023 was small and didn’t have much (if any) HPC experience, but they managed to pull off a third place finish on the Oak Ridge National Laboratory ‘Blast’ Challenge, which shows them they can do it and gives them something to build on for 2024.

Mikayla Chandler: "I am a Senior Computer Science student focused on the extensive research of Computer Technology. My main areas of interest are Cybersecurity, Software Development, Scientific Computing, and Theory of Computation. I plan to go to graduate school to further my studies in Computer Science. In the future I wish to be a research scientist for a national laboratory."
"I am Miah Robinson; a Computer Science Senior at Jackson State University graduating this Spring! I’ve done research about epidemic spreading across networks and training a neural network to compute code quality metrics. To relax, I love to listen to music, and read fantasy books, and poems. I plan on going to graduate school for a Masters and Doctorate in Computer Science or Data Science."
