A hearty welcome to our newest competitor, University of California Riverside! Since this is their first cluster competition ever, we don’t know much about them, but I did some nosing around and what I found, I liked. Their Computer Science requirements are very solid, with students taking two doses of C++ programming in their first year. Second year highlights include applied linear algebra, multivariable calculus, assembly language programming, and intermediate dodgeball. They offer slate of electives covering topics that are near and dear to HPC like compilers, modeling and simulation, GPU programming, and, of course, a heaping helping of AI.
This first UCR team is composed of four students, three undergrads plus one grad student. We can say for sure that they all have names, email addresses, and phone numbers. We’ll get more details soon…
UC Riverside 2025 Roster
Matthew Chung: "I'm Matthew, a third year student studying Computer Science at UCR. My interests are all things HPC and GPU computing. I enjoy learning how to build clusters and design networks to support said clusters. I also enjoy playing the electric guitar and cooking."
Mike Ibrahim: "Hello, my name is Mike Ibrahim and I am a third year studying Computer Engineering at UCR. My interests are in computer architecture, windows internals, embedded systems, and cyber security. My favorite programming languages are C/C++. In my free time I like to workout and walk my dogs."
Thomas Li: "I'm a Computer Science major at UCR. I'm a fan of computer networks and as side projects I like making multiplayer games. Aside from my technical interests, I also enjoy hiking and baking."
Vincent Zhou: "I'm Vincent, a graduate student majoring in Computer Science and Engineering at Santa Clara University. Ever since I got a Wii for my ninth birthday, I've had a lifelong passion for computers and video games. In my free time, I enjoy working on my passion projects, many of which revolve around visualizing data I'm interested in. I also have an interest in science fiction — The Martian Chronicles is one of my favorite books!"
