This is the second team from Cal State University Channel Islands and the second time the school has fielded two teams in the Winter Classic. So that’s four times all together if you’re doing the math. One of the members of this four-person team was also in the Winter Classic last year, so they have a bit of experience in their corner.
This is a very strong team. They maxed out the points in the HPC Pop Quiz, beat the field on HPCG, and grabbed second on ORNL and NASA. The Dolphins also took fourth in the AWS GROMACS Challenge. The team has been in the overall lead throughout the competition, but by a diminishing margin, which has to be nerve wracking for them. Heading into the last event, the judging interview, they only have a 2.09 point lead over UC Santa Cruze….yikes!
